This is not really a fashion blog. You probably knew that already, but I thought I’d clear that up. ;) While I dress in what I deem a pretty acceptable way, my fashion choices don’t often stray from whatever Gap has on sale at the moment. I’m creative in a lot of ways – fashion just isn’t one of them. So where is this post going? I’ll tell you.
When I first moved to Chicago, I was told by countless ladies that I just haaaaad to check out Lori’s in Lincoln Park. So, I did. And I met Lori. And she’s great.
A Chicago native, Lori opened her doors in 1983 on Armitage. And being the #girlboss that she is, her business was wildly successful – she now has 2 suburban locations in addition to her (expanded) Lori’s LP location.
Now as I mentioned before, I’m not exactly a clothing connoisseur. When I most recently went into the store to find some goodies, I picked pretty much what you would expect me to. Par exemple:

After I finished picking my favorites, Lori played “dress Audrey.” She immediately recognized my need to step a bit out of my comfort zone… oh boy, was she right! These are things that I wouldn’t ever normally think of picking… but I actually really, really liked them! I think Lori is actually some kind of fashion goddess.
Chambray Button Down // High-Top Sneakers // Jogger Pants
I’m also not a model, so Lori was showing me a pose that I clearly was NOT picking up on. Ha!
Plaid Button-Down Dress // Tassel Loafers
Bomber Jacket // Sweater Dress // Studded Metallic Oxfords
This last outfit was one that I kinda-sorta picked out… meaning that I pulled out the skirt and Lori chose the rest. I felt very “Joan from Mad Men,” minus the bright red hair. This one was definitely my favorite – now where to wear it?

Key learning from this trip: I have GOT to learn to step out of my comfort zone. I try new things all the time (food, mostly), but I’ve never really tried a new style. Thank you, Lori, for letting me play dress up!
